YellowBelly Brewery - Tuesday Trivia

288 Water Street | Tuesday 8pm |

YellowBelly runs trivia every Tuesday upstairs in the Public House.

The venue itself is a five-floor historic building dating to 1725, one of the oldest in St. John's. Downstairs you'll find the UnderBelly speakeasy, where you can still see remnants of the 1892 Great Fire. Upstairs is where you play, with a full gastropub menu including wood-fired pizza and house-brewed beers like Wexford Wheat Ale and Fightin' Irish Red.

What to know:

  • Teams can have up to 6 players.
  • Contact: (709) 757-3780

Best for: Groups who want great food and historic atmosphere

Landwash Brewery - Thursday Trivia in the Loft

181 Commonwealth Avenue, Mount Pearl | Thursday 7:30pm | Free

"Trivia in the Loft" happens every Thursday, trivia kicks off at 7:30pm, and the prizes are solid. First place takes home a $25 Landwash gift card plus a free combo from Johnny & Mae's, the food truck parked on-site. Everyone else gets a shot at the random draw for free cans.

Hosts TJ and Maddy run a good game in a modern beer-hall style space. Landwash opened in December 2018 as Mount Pearl's first taproom, and they've built a loyal trivia following since. The beers are flavor-forward and inspired by American craft brewing, with rotating guest taps from other Newfoundland breweries.

One catch: you have to book ahead. Email nicole@landwashbrewery.com and wait for confirmation. Teams need 2-6 players, no solo spots, no groups larger than six. They book up fast, so email early in the week.

What to know:

  • Mount Pearl location, about 10 minutes from downtown St. John's.
  • Booking required via email (confirmation needed).
  • No outside food or drinks.
  • Full drink options beyond beer: cider, wine, spirits, non-alcoholic.

Best for: Craft beer fans who plan ahead, groups of 2-6, and anyone who appreciates free entry.

Bannerman Brewing - Monday Walk-Ins Welcome

90 Duckworth Street | Monday 7pm | $2 per player

Bannerman is where you go when you can't plan ahead. No reservation needed, just show up. Doors open at 6:30pm, trivia runs 7pm to 9pm, and it's $2 per player.

The brewery sits in the historic East Fire Station on the corner of Duckworth and Ordnance. The building was constructed after the Great Fire of 1892 and rebuilt in the 1950s. Bannerman opened here in May 2019 and operates as a coffee shop in the mornings, brewery in the afternoons and evenings. The taproom has communal tables, a bright and airy vibe, and a rotating selection of beers from IPAs to stouts.

Food comes from Namjim, their Thai-inspired kitchen. Not what you'd expect at a brewery, but it works.

Trivia happens upstairs in the event space. It's lower-profile than YellowBelly or Landwash, but it's a solid Monday night option—especially if you couldn't book Landwash for Thursday.

What to know:

  • Walk-in friendly. No booking required.
  • $2 per player at the door.
  • Named after nearby Bannerman Park.

Best for: Spontaneous players, downtown locals, and anyone who needs a Monday night trivia fix.

How to Choose Your Brewery Trivia

Not sure which spot fits? Here's a quick guide:

  • If you want free trivia: Landwash or Yellowbelly
  • If you can't plan ahead: Bannerman (walk-in friendly)
  • If you want the best food: YellowBelly (full gastropub) or Landwash (food truck)
  • If you prefer downtown: YellowBelly or Bannerman
  • If you're in Mount Pearl: Landwash

Why Brewery Trivia Hits Different

Playing pub quiz at a craft brewery isn't the same as trivia at a chain restaurant. The beer selection is better, obviously, but it's more than that. These places are built for hanging out. The atmosphere is designed for conversation, the food options tend to be more interesting, and the crowd skews toward people who actually care about what they're drinking.

You're also supporting local businesses. YellowBelly, Landwash, and Bannerman are all independently owned and part of Newfoundland's growing craft beer scene. There are now 21 breweries across the province, but these three are the ones doing regular trivia.

Going to Brewery Trivia Alone?

All three breweries are welcoming to solo players, but the logistics vary.

At YellowBelly and Bannerman, teams often absorb solo players who show up looking for a group. Just let people know you're on your own, and most nights someone will take you in.

Landwash is trickier. They require teams of 2-6 to book, so you can't just show up solo and hope for the best. You'll need to find at least one other person before you email.

Or skip the on-the-spot recruiting. Rally helps you find teammates heading to brewery trivia before you leave home. Need a group for Landwash on Thursday? Find your squad ahead of time instead of scrambling.

Wrapping Up

Three breweries, three nights, three ways to combine craft beer and pub quiz in St. John's. YellowBelly for historic atmosphere. Landwash for free entry and a modern loft space. Bannerman for Monday walk-ins who hate planning ahead.
